Here’s another still life painting, the process I followed for this was very similar to the previous painting Lemon Yellow.
The scale of this is very different to Lemon Yellow, I decided to make the subject matter larger as a lime is quite a small fruit and by changing to a more zoomed in focus it gave more emphasis on the subject.
On this painting I struggled a little with getting a colour harmony between the subject and the background and tried quite a few mixes and layers until I found a relationship that I thought worked.
I introduced a complementary red tinge into the shadows and into the mid and darker areas of the lime with the intention of giving the painting a more three dimensional feel to the fruit.
My aim in these still life paintings is to create an image that when viewed at close range reveals loose brush marks and some texture but when viewed from a further distance the paintings should look more realistic to the subject.
Please let me know if you have any thoughts or questions!
